MTHFR Test
$99.00
This test will help evaluate a reduced functionality of MTHFR, a gene involved in the regulation of homocysteine in the body. An elevated homocysteine level is known to be an independent risk factor for ischemic stroke, thrombotic and cardiovascular diseases.
Collection Method: Swab
The MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) gene produces an enzyme involved in the processing of folate and regulation of homocysteine in the body. Reduced functionality of MTHFR can cause homocysteine levels to escalate, and this issue is intensified with low levels of folate. Genotyping of the MTHFR gene can inform physicians of a patient’s predispositions for elevated homocysteine. Elevated homocysteine is associated with atherosclerosis and blood clots. With this knowledge, physicians can recommend a proper diet and make medical recommendations to help decrease elevated plasma homocysteine.
